I don't know about you but in my home lately, every time I see my daughter or one of her friends, my telephone is stuck to their ear.
We have tried to limit time per phone call. We have tried to set limits on how many calls they can each make a day. But somehow, someway, they still manage to slip by us.
So what about cell phones? My kids have been begging for one. Of course for safety purposes my husband and I both have one now. I just can't see why my daughter needs one this early in life.
Other parents give in to their kids and say oh well this way I can get in contact with them anytime I need. To which I say, "Betcha Ya Can't." If they are smart enough to... more
This morning my door bell rang and there stood one of my favorite friends daughter. I kind of giggled at her and said, "Aren't you going to school today?" She replied "Oh yes is April ready?"
About that time my daughter appeared out of the kitchen and her first words were "Oh how cool," followed by a "where did you get those?" Wasn't it obvious I thought, out of her pajama drawer.
I guess from the conversation the kids had, this is some new craze going around and I guess has been around for a couple of years. Kids wear leisure clothes to school. They sure looked like Pj's to me.
I looked over and saw this gleam in my daughters eyes and I immediately said, "Don't... more
This is one area that a lot of parents have trouble with. They themselves may not feel free to talk about personal issues like sex. But in this world of HIV and other STDs it is very important to give your child the knowledge they need to be safe and stay safe.
Providing your child with good sex education and teaching them how to use condoms and other forms of birth control is imperative.
Teen pregnancy is only one of the issues that the adolescent society has to be concerned about. As parents we need to make sure the kids are aware. In doing so you are not giving them permission to have sex. You should make it more than clear to them that no sex is the best way of keeping... more
Every morning I think my daughter puts on an outfit or fixes her hair just to rile my "Shock Factor". It is mid-winter here in the Michigan Mitten and my daughter is dressed for Florida.
I used to drive down the street and see kids with bright green or orange hair and think, "Why would a parent let them out of the house looking like that?"
Well obviously that was just the beginning of my Foster/Adoptive Family. I grew up in a time where you made sure your pants fit right not let them hang to your knees and expose your boxers or god forbid worse. So getting used to a teenager expressing themselves was a little lesson for me.
In Foster Care the one thing a birth parent... more
The door bell rang and the dogs started barking. I ran towards the door falling over one of the kid's shoes. When I got there and opened the door. There stood some girl's mom.
Her face a little flushed from crying she handed me an invitation to her 15 year old daughter's baby shower.
I could tell she was needing someone to talk to so I smiled and asked "Where have you registered your daughters Baby Shower. I'm sure my daughter will want to choose the perfect gift"
Before I knew it she was telling me how this baby was going to affect the whole family and change lives. Then she went in to how she could handle pregnancy but what if her daughter had AIDS now? What... more
