Discipline: How NOT To Do It

Recently as we were walking in the local Mall. I noticed this lady tugging at her two children. They were little tykes just about 3 or 4. She was hurting along and trying to keep the kids on pace.

I remembered those days when I had five or six kids of all ages scattered all around me and my daughter Angela in a stroller too. To say the least it is not fun.

We were relaxing and kicking back allowing our daughter and her friend to pick out a few things at the mall. This lady really caught my attention when she began pinching her daughter. I thought no way I just didn't see that woman pinch that little girl. But as soon as I noticed it...she did it again.

I pointed... more

Discipline For Life

Parenting is something that you learn. Once you have children your life takes on new meaning. What you say or do is being watched and often Memicked by the little ones around you.

This is why we need to learn how to correct our children without harming their self esteem or causing undue fear with in them.

As adults we learn to react to what happens around us. Many times our fear will come out in angry words or a loud scream. So learning to Act instead of React is a lesson we all could improve upon.

Knowing that our children have a... more

Yelling Can It Be Child Abuse?

Most of us can think of someone we know who seems to "Yell" better than they can speak English.

We often do not think when we are raising our voices what effect our voice and words are having on the little ones around us.

If you yell a lot as a parent. You might find that your child does not respond to you very well. They have two choice to get used to you sounding loud or to become scared of you and react to your anger.

I always tell my children if they are raising their voice at someone. They should remember to lay their baby down and not... more

Disciplining Myself

In the midst of rushing around trying to solve the worlds problems around me. I have totally neglected to pay attention to my own health issues.

I have been an insulin dependant Diabetic for over 28 years. The past six years I have had one major heart attack and a quadruple heart bypass. During that bypass my blood pressure dropped and a blood clot went to the center of my brain and diminished my eye sight 45 percent. Leaving me totally blind for three months.

At that time my baby was only 4 and I bombarded God with prayers. All I asked was for God to allow me the opportunity to see my children's faces again. It was not long until my miracle happened and i got back just... more

When I Need To Smile

When I need to smile my husband is always good for a cute joke. However because of his job as a Gas Station Manager he often has incidents that are as humorous as a good joke.

I thought I would share one with you:

It was around six in the morning and the usual "Get to Work Fast" rush was on at the gas station. Several cars filled up their tanks and left. This one car kept sitting there. The lady got out of her car and walked to the back of the pump area.

Where someone had obviously left a cooler sitting there. She came into the... more

With everyone around us sniffling and coughing. The kids seem to have picked up a cough over night. You can tell it is our Dreaded "Flu Season."

It is cold outside and our bodies may be craving a boost of vitamins and good nutrition. Enough said. It is time to find some good soup recipes and to head for the kitchen.

I checked out and found a very cool web site that offers recipes and cool information as well as the opportunity to buy pre made soup fixings. I encourage everyone to check it out. Especially if you have adopted children from the International realm. They might have a soup recipe or one that you can purchase that could make your child feel like... more

Cooking Breakfast and Being Mom

Posted by : Sharlene in Older Child Adoption Blog at 05:32 am , 375 words, 44 views
Categories: Positive Parenting

One of my favorite times of the day begins when I wake up my family. With the wonderful smell of a home cooked breakfast. The kids come in with sleepy eyes and I hear the "Ummmmmm" sound radiating out of their smiles.

"Bacon and eggs please with toast, no butter mom." "Two eggs and all the trimmings mom." Usually follows that request.

On weekend mornings I try and make biscuits and gravy also. That's when it gets fun because usually Angela has friends sleeping over and most of them have never had a large breakfast. They are... more

Categories: Family Safety

Well it is time to remind everyone that Halloween Safety is not a joke. In todays world everyone must use wisdom when checking candy and dressing up for a night of Trick or Treating.

Here are some of my Safety Tips:

1). Dress your child in a bright color. Glow in the dark strip tapes or bands can save lives. 2). Make sure they have some time of flash light with them. 3). If the children are older make sure they still trick or treat in groups. Safety is in numbers. 4). All children under the age of 12 should have a... more
