Creepy sounds of leafs at large. Whispering winds and dark colored cars. Ghost's and Goblin's and Withces OH MY ~! Then the Noise of that popular cry ....TRICK OR TREAT.

Well it is time to think about buying Halloween treats for those little munchkin that will cry out at your door.

Halloween is one of my daughters favorite times of the year. She loves going to our neighbors homes and saying Trick or Treat and showing off her costume. I just wish it were more safe out there for all of our kids.

Of course we add pumpkin... more

Take A Deep Breath and Count To 1000

Have you ever had one of those days that seem like a perfect example of Murphy's Law. If it could happen it will happen?

Well on those days I don't think counting to 10 works very well. Before you get to the number 10 someone is off doing something else that will make you livid.

Our house is usually a busy house. So sometimes on days like that not even going off into my bedroom works very well. Someone will just come knocking with another issue.

So I run away into the bathroom. At least in there I am sure to get at least five minutes of peace before someone else asks "Who is in the bathroom."

Only bad thing is ....Who wants to breath deep in a bathroom... more

Fear Of The Dark

When it is just a little past sunset and the sky is getting to be dark. All sorts of things come into our minds.

It seems if we are walking we can hear things better. Like the leaves rushing around behind us. Almost sounding like foot steps.

My daughter Angela loves the dark when it is summer time. It seems to just slip up on you because of the long lazy days.

However...now that school has started and it is darker out side in the morning when she has to leave for her school bus stop. She does not seem to like the dark so much.

In... more

I Have To Do What?

God I hate the beginning of the new school year for us parents. We get these lists sent home of things we have to do each day with our children. (Which is good for the most part)

All I know is that trying to watch my favorite series for the new season on TV and trying to listen and teach my child her spelling words. Just can not be accomplished at the same time.

I wanted so much to ask my husband to go over her work with her. But I know he has worked hard all day and my daughter is so much more important than some stupid TV show.

I snuggled up in bed with her and she read to me from her first library book of the season. Then we pulled out her list of spelling... more

Driving Safety

For all of those parents out there with teenage drivers. It is time to instill some good safety tips for fall driving.

I know several foster and adoptive students that are taking drivers education at our local high school. Some of which are responsible young people and a few of them I would not let near the road more or less my car. (Giggle)

Parents are left to give most of the driving skills in our area. The drivers training instructor only has about six hours to devote to each young driver. So if a parent wants to make sure... more

Helping Your Child know Discipline

Helping your child know the difference from what is right and wrong. Will help them make better choices in their future.

Talking to a child is better than talking at a child. When you sit down and look into their eyes. You can tell if they are understanding what you are saying. Remember to keep it short and exact. Children only hear about 15 percent of what you are saying to them. So the first few things you say are very important.

Never degrade your child for something they have done wrong. Let them know you are unhappy that they... more

It Is About Bedtime

Getting back into the swing of routine life after a long summer, is hard on everyone. No more late night movies or cartoon marathons. It is time to retrain our bodies to get enough rest so that we can be awake, alert and learn in school. It is often hard for children to sleep when it is still light outside. One way to help the children get used to earlier bed times is to pull the blinds or hang darker curtains on the windows. This will allow the kid's to know it is time for sleep.

Getting dinner routine back on schedule is... more

Teaching Our Kids About Culture

Just like a walk back in time. To a place where people have simple lives. There is no Playstation or Television. No telephone or creative lighting. No electricity at all.

There are no cars and no trucks. Just black carriages and horses. White houses and dark curtains. Children dressed in black and white. Little girls wear bonnets still and little boys wear hats.

Back to a time when people are polite and speak when spoken to. A time where the whole family works the farm and how hard you work ensures your food for the winter.

Where the house smells so good from the fresh baked breads and home made pies and cookies. Where chickens provide breakfast... more

The Funny Things Kids Do

One day while working for a friend at her cement store. I noticed a little girl who kept playing around our water fountain.

Her mother was a busy foster mom. She was running and chasing after the younger children, while this little one seemed to be entertaining herself.

After observing her for several minutes. I decided to walk over and say hello to her. I was worried that the chemicals in the fountain were not child safe and I wanted to let the little girl know not to play in the water.

When I approached the fountain much to my surprise.... more

Sexual Predators Keep Out

Once again with all the press releases on the JonBenet Ramsey case. With the focus being on a child sex offender John Mark Karr.

I would like to remind everyone about the watchdog Web site. I have found it helpful in keeping our family updated on anyone in our community who might be of harm to our children.

I always remind people that the names placed on this list are people. They may or may not be guilty of sex crimes. Many people plead down in court cases to a lesser offense. So please do not assume that the people on the list are serious criminals and violate their rights to have a normal life.

This Web site is to help you know who to watch out for. It... more
