Last year after Katrina hit land and the devastation was overwhelming, it did not shock me that everyone had a desire to help those who had lost their homes to the storm.
So when my 7 year old decided she wanted to raise money for the kids who were victims of Katrina too, I smiled and handed her a pitcher and some kool aid with a hand full of dixie cups. She made a sign and out the door she went.
She and the two good friends she has set up a stand on the corner and sold lemonade for several hours. They made $27.00 for Katrina's Kids, which we happily sent off to Red Cross.
A few days ago my daughter brought in a bag of rocks she had been collecting. She sat for hours coloring and painting the rocks.
The next day when she went out to play she set up a Rock Sale stand. I giggled and thought to myself that she was about to learn her first hard lesson about sales.
Much to my surprise she came in with a pocket full of money. She even gave some to her friends. She kept one rock for herself.
My husband and I sat and talked about how everything seems to come easy for her. So far everything she has tried she has accomplished. Our concern is what will happen when she eventually fails to come out on top.
More than anything else it blesses my heart to watch her not be selfish and to share what she has with others.
She lost her tooth during her rock sale and could not find it. When she came in upset that the tooth fairy would not come because she didn't have her tooth, we decided to write the tooth fairy a letter and place it under her pillow. The letter explained how she lost her tooth.
She still was not sure if the tooth fairy would believe her so she tried to wait up and explain it all to the tooth fairy in person. But her sleepy brown eyes could not make it past midnight.
When she woke up this morning and looked for the letter, there were 3 one dollar bills where the letter had been placed. The tooth fairy made it. Her letter had worked.
Now she is off happily playing scrabble with her best friend. If only life for us adults could be so easy.
It just amazes me that my baby has a Business Plan. I will be behind her all the way in whatever she wants to try. Maybe I will have one college graduate yet in the family.
