A Day At The Park

It was a lazy day just full of sunshine. Perfect for a walk to the park. My daughter and her friend decided to take Devin (my grandson) off to the park to play.

He just loved it at the park like any little person. He was off to play on the swing set and to bounce on the ducks and elephant springs. He loved the slide and time went quickly by them.

The sky began getting darker and the girls decided it was time to begin the walk home. Of course Devin was having way to much fun to even think about coming home. (giggle)

So he threw his first major temper tantrum on my daughter and her friend. As they came through the door complaining on how he cried and kept saying "No Go." Kicking and screaming they picked him up and headed home.

The frustration on my daughters face was priceless. She stomped around saying how she would never take him anywhere ever again.

I again giggled and said, "Are you now throwing a temper tantrum too?" Then I did one of those "I can remember when....." stories that she so dearly hates with a passion. Reminding her how she used to kick and scream in the store and embarrass me to no end.

Learning the natural phases of a child as they are learning and growing in their own world is not always pleasant. But it is always normal to a certain extent.

I am sure if she had noticed the other children playing and the other parents, guardians and Big Sisters, she would have noticed the same temperament with the other children Devin's age too.

Observation and awareness comes with time and seasoning. Have mercy on the parent of any toddler in their "Terrible Twos." If you want to be the parent then act like one and think as you react to your child so you slways win the battles. In the long run allowing the child to get their way will make life much harder to handle.
