In every small town in America you will hear the Early Childhood Prevention Teachers, teaching good dental health to their class room kids and to their parents.
It is a known fact that in most low income families good dental care is one of the last things that the family worries about. So teaching a child to brush 3 times a day or after each meal may not be routine.
It is highly recommended that even babies have their gums cleaned after each bottle. It helps mom to recognize any new teeth growing and if there is a problem with the babies mouth.
It is good to have your child visit the dentist after all the baby teeth have grown in and the child begins to loose the teeth. As the new adult teeth grow in the dentist can see if spacers are needed or if any other teeth need to be removed to keep the new adult teeth straight as they grow in.
There are several ways to teach a child how to brush their teeth. One of the best ways is by letting them watch as you brush your teeth. Then encouraging them to brush with you. There are also 2 minute timers that the kids just love so they know how long they must brush is until the sand runs down out of the top of the glass.
There are cartoon videos and good tips in children's books. A visit with you to the dentist office to get to know the people there and the rooms that they will go into is a good idea too. The gift bags of a new tooth brush and some kids tooth paste and stickers also help encourage them to brush also.
It is never to early or to late to teach good dental health. If you adopt an older child they too need to be trained and they need to see a dentist as soon as possible to evaluate if they have any dental issues.
Every child deserves the chance to have a bright smile to offer the world. Good Dental Health will help keep them smiling for a long time to come.
