There are many ways to make your new adopted child feel at home. One is making sure you plan good family time. Open communication is also a positive plan. Here are a few thoughts on how to nurture your child when you are settled in to a daily life style.

Morning Wake Up:

1.) Sit on the side of your child's bed.
2.) Take your hand and caress your child's cheek
or rub their arm or back.
3.) In a soft calm voice. Say "Good Morning..."
4.) Talk softly and wake your child slowly.
5.) If this becomes routine. You will eventually
have good morning conversations with your child.
It starts their day off to a good calm way.

Daily:

1.) Remember to speak clearly but in an even tone.
2.) Ask how their day at school went.
3.) Ask how their friends are.
4.) Ask if they need help doing homework.
5.) Make time to watch TV or play outside with them.
6.) Tell them you care about them.
7.) Encourage them and tell them you are there if
they need you.

8.) Offer a warm hug. Or ask for one.
9.) Ask if they want to go with you to the store.

Nightly:

1.) Remind them of brushing teeth and good hygiene.
2.) Ask if they want to share a snack with you.
3.) Say their prayers with them.
4.) Thank them for what they did for you today.
5.) Wish them sweet dreams and say I love you.

With just tender suggestions you can reinforce your
love for your child. Your words help them feel comforted and needed. Let them know you appreciate them and want them in your life.

By asking them for their help you show that you trust them and respect them. By offering your help you let them know they can trust you and respect you.

Let the learn the differences in good touches. LIke a warm hug, a soft brush of their hair with your hand. A back rub. We all need that soothing touch.

If you keep being consistent with your actions. It will help you to nurture and grow closer as a family and help the adopted child to bond faster and feel more secure.

What are some other ways you have nurtured your child? Your opinions count.
