If you are looking into the world of adoption. There are a few things that you may want to know before you begin your search.

The Do’s……..

1.) Do ask yourself why you want to adopt.

2.) Do make a decision on what age bracket you would like to explore in adoption.

3.) Do decide if a girl or a boy will fit into your family better.

4.) Do make a decision if you would like to adopt from the USA or another country. If so what country would you be interested in?

5.) Do ask questions. Make a list of any and all important questions you may have for the agency you choose and for the adoption process.

6.) Do ask for a well rounded medical and family history on the child you wish to adopt.

The Don’ts of Adoption:

1.) Don’t expect paper work to move quickly or efficiently. There are always glitches in the process and you do not wish to have a hurry up and wait attitude.

2.) Don’t confuse yourself or you family by second guessing your choices after you meet the children who need to be adopted. You made a choice boy or girl and age bracket so that the child you choose will fit into your family better.

3.) Don’t forget to ask about financial help in adopting there are programs out there to help families afford adoption. Do not let money be a detourant or reason why you do not adopt.

4.) Don’t think that you have to go through one agency. There are plenty of agencies out there to choose from. Be sure to interview a few before you choose which one you will go through.

5.) Don’t allow yourself to be discouraged. There are plenty of needy children out there that will fit into your home and family. It just takes time to meet the right one and the agency is there to help you make sure that you fit the child’s needs too.
