Potty Training is never a fun event. It takes time and consistency. Both parents have to help. The child must be willing. Due to this friendly fact it must be made fun and exciting to learn.
Here are my top 10 tips:
1.) Make your bathroom a child friendly place. Make it safe and decorate it with rugs and shower curtains themes that your child is fond of.
2.) Play the swishing game where flushing the toilet is fun. There are books to start you off on at your local book store that have a flush button.
3.) First thing in the morning make it bathroom time for both you and your child if they have a potty chair of their own. If not make sure you go in and sit down to talk to them and make them feel safe.
4.) Make a bathroom potty chart and get some fun stickers like stars or characters that your child loves. If your child goes in the potty and helps you flush it away. They get a big sticker and lots of kisses and hugs and praise.
5.) After every meal repeat the bathroom visit, I know it takes some time out of your day but you do want your child to be successful.
6.) On days when you will be at home. Make it an underpants and potty day. Never forget to praise and give them their sticker when they do well.
7.) If they go in their underpants do not yell or make them feel bad. Just make them go into the bathroom and help you wash it out. They wont like this. It will help them learn quickly that potty time is more fun.
8.) Make sure your baby sitter and spouse complies with your potty training habits also. You do not want your child confused.
9.) Use diapers at night but let your child fall asleep before you put one on him or her. You do not want them wet in the night but you do want them to know under pants is the way to go and grow.
10). Remember potty training takes time do not get
frustrated with your child. They will learn if you stay consistent.
Good Parenting takes stability and consistency during times like potty training. With some luck you will have your child trained and ready for pre school in no time. Here’s to happy parenting.
