Featured on the "Oprah" Show on August 31, 2006. Bill Gates and his Wife spoke of their fear for our Nations Educational Systems.
They appeared on Oprah to call national attention to the low level of education that American children are receiving. They highlighted the conditions of inner city schools verses suburban schools.
A bill has been passed to up date our school systems
in the next 10 years for over a trillion dollars in educational improvements. From construction to new computer systems. While this is a very good idea.
That will take time to implement.
Our immediate worry is for the children that are in school now. Our nation has to many children dropping out of school. It is happening in every state in America.
Oprah stated "What good is it for a child to graduate in 2006. When they have graduated from a school system designed for 1956."
How do we keep our kids interested in staying in school? Will passing laws that prohibit teens under the age of 18 from quitting school work?
Oprah is calling for all the parents of our children to stand up. To take issue with keeping their children in school and supporting the school funding so that the children have enough going on in school to keep their interests.
I must admit that I have been concerned for some time. Living in the center of the Michigan Mitten.
I thought that maybe it was just our rural small town
educational system. That the children here just lost interest to fast in everything. With no hope of employment with the Michigan economy bottoming out around us.
Bill Gates and his wife stated that they were scared.
Scared that our country will not be number one if our children do not get serious about their education. And if we do not provide an up to date educational system for them to learn in.
Part two of the Educational Crisis will air tomorrow on the "Oprah" show. They will be addressing what can be done to fix our issues and to encourage our kids.
