Recently while checking out some of the up to date news on adoption search.com. I ran a crossed a site that listed a few summer camp sites for adopted children that really impressed me.

One of the camp sites is http://www.mycampchina.com/.
If you follow our own adoptionBLOGS.com Blogger, Grant who writes on China Adoption for us (http://china.adoptionblogs.com/) about adopting children from China. You may find Camp China of great interest.

It is a positive place for children who have been adopted from China to go for summer camp and participate in activities with other children who are from their own country.

Camp China is explained as: Camp China is a summer weekend for children of adoptive families held in the Blue Mountains of Western North Carolina. Camp China helps children understand and feel proud of their heritage and understand their adoption. Children attend sessions where they have fun participating in activities such as dancing and singing, creating works of art, and playing games such as Chinese jump rope and Chinese Yo Yo. While the children are learning, adults also attend workshops to continue learning about the many phases of adoption.

What a wonderful idea for a summer camp to specialize in one area for children who may not speak our language and need the fellowship and friendship of other children from their own country.
Children who play the same games and speak the same language and know about their homeland.

This is also a good opportunity for parents to get a few days of respite if it is needed. While their child is happy and having fun at a camp designed to help them remember their heritage.

The picture below shows three young girls who were at Camp China together. It appears on the Camp China web site as an example of the long lasting friendships the children make while at Camp China.

One of the other camps listed would also be a good sources for summer respite for adoptive families.

I am also sure there are good camp sites around your own area. You just have to look for them and make use of their great resources for your adopted or foster children.

There is nothing like good summer fun with friends of all ages.
