Changing One's Profession

I recently read about a very novel idea about exploring a new career.

Brian Kurth founded VocationVacations and it offers clients a risk-free chance to test drive a new career. In a three day vacation they are matched with a mentor and immersed in a different profession. The top ten are chocolatier, dog trainer, songwriter, PR Director, wine maker, fashion buyer, Bed and Breakfast owner, sports announcer, Not-For-Profit Director and TV Producer.

I didn’t see Adoptive Mother to a Large Family of Traumatized Yet Adorable Children.

Is there no interest or did they just not think of this as an opportunity?

Who wouldn’t want to shadow me as I wrestle large, out-of-control ragers to the ground for their own safety, or dodge broken glass when a ten year old oppositionally defiant girl puts her fist through her window? What about using 409 Spray to wipe feces smears off the wall or maybe dragging fragrantly full night diapers out of heating vents? We could clean up the books that flew off the shelves that were turned over in anger by a 12 year old with schizoaffective disorder.

We could pick up the wrappers from stolen food that’s been hoarded and stuffed everywhere or wash a dozen loads of laundry a day and watch kids run outside in socks without shoes.

Brian Kurth interviewed folks about their jobs and found that even successful people were often not content.

Well duh, how could they have found nirvana without participating in therapy that blamed them for what happened years ago before they were ever involved in adoption? Who could be happy until they’ve spent hours repainting and repairing a house they’re still trying to pay for? Do you see me exchanging freshly strewn turds for the life of a chocolatier? I'm willing to bet normal folks are scared to click the last link. Is it chocolate or the other?

Heck no. I’m satisfied in life, I’m internally rewarded, very challenged and happy, however frustrated I may seem at times. In the long run, what I’m doing counts for something and I believe that is where one finds true joy.

Now do I have any takers for a Vocation Vacation?

so.....would that be mentor, tormentor, or dementor? All three perhaps?!

Sign me up for the three day deal, but it comes with an additional one of those, what do you call them, Traumatized yet Adorable Children. We're just finishing up using the 409 in the kitchen bathroom, we'll be right over as soon as we're done dunking the undies in clorox water.....

At least he's not formulating any plans to hack up the whole family while we're sleeping, so we're good!

Have you not been approached by TLC or DHC to do one of their segments on "Kids by the Dozen"?? They follow a large family around for a day or so and show how much laundry and groceries they go through among other things. I bet they've never seen anything like what you cram into a typical day. Some of these families spent thousands on groceries every month and none of them have gardens (the shame!!). They have nothing on you Cindy!

speaking of television shows, would love to see Cindy do an episode of Super Nanny. as the super nanny, of course. Or maybe Nancy S. yes, she would be a scream as a super nanny. both of them.

Actually in GA we get tons of hurricane effects, coming from the south. Now that I've met Cindy's family, I understand where that weather comes from!

Thanks for the laugh, Cindy!

"fragrantly full night diapers"
This is truly an artistic phrase, in fact, I think it should be on display in a gallery with other New Wave and recycled art. Here is the link with the description that I googled. http://www.museumca.org/exhibit/exhi_hello_again.html
Hello Again: A New Wave of Recycled Art and Design, an exhibition of innovative and often surprising products created from recycled and reused materials, is traveling under the auspices of the Oakland Museum of California now. The show's itinerary was:
