More and More children are being born with heart problems.
With all of the encouragement for your girls to eat healthy and to make sure they take a vitamin supplement along with a good source of folic acid, to prevent birth defects. You would think they would learn to treat their body good until they are past the child bearing years.
However sometimes there is nothing a mother could do to prevent childhood heart problems. Especially if cardiac problems run in the family. The good thing is to have your child get a good check up each year.
Pay attention if your doctor or nurse says that it sounds like the child may have a heart murmur.
My son was told he had a heart murmur when he received his yearly physical for wrestling. I spoke up and told the doctor that I would appreciate knowing why he has the murmur. At that point they set him up for an EKG (ElectroCardioGram).
With the EKG results they noticed a larger problem and he was sent to Childrens Hospital in Detroit.
To a Childrens Heart Specialist. After doing an ultra sound of his heart. They found he had a whole in his heart and that one of his valves was not working properly.
We had noticed that he got tired easy when out playing. He was also on the thin side but he was always on the go. We however had not noticed nor did he tell us his hands and feet were sometimes cold. Or that the hands turned blue from time to time.
Had we noticed his finger nails and felt his hands during one of these times, we could have seen the area under his finger nails turning blue. Or his lips turning blue.
He was 14 when he was diagnosed. That was when our worries began........
