Cooking Breakfast and Being Mom

One of my favorite times of the day begins when I wake up my family. With the wonderful smell of a home cooked breakfast. The kids come in with sleepy eyes and I hear the "Ummmmmm" sound radiating out of their smiles.

"Bacon and eggs please with toast, no butter mom."
"Two eggs and all the trimmings mom." Usually follows that request.

On weekend mornings I try and make biscuits and gravy also. That's when it gets fun because usually Angela has friends sleeping over and most of them have never had a large breakfast. They are used to pop tarts and cereal. Which is fine because most of America and it's fast paced society live on whatever they can make the fastest.

However the special breakfasts I make on weekends is what keeps the families of my children coming back home to moms table each weekend.

It is nice to hear them coming into the door. I get the same old "Ummmmmmm, Mom" that they gave me as children in school.

It is those times that I am so great full to God for making me a mom through the gift of Adoption.

As I grow older the experience of being mom gets even deeper. As I hold my grand children and rock them. Feeling the warmth and love that Grandma's and grandpa's often get.

Yesterday afternoon I got a pleasant visit from Billy. He is one of the siblings of my adopted children. To him I am "Mom" also. When ever he comes by he always wants to know where the left overs are. Yesterday it was homemade meat loaf and mashed potatoes with green beans and a tossed salad.

He told his friend he had with him. You have not ate anything as good as what comes from My Moms table. Then I fixed them both a warm plate of left overs.

His words warmed my heart and edified my spirit. Just as I enjoyed my moms breakfasts for so many years and my dads fried chicken. My kids and their friends have given me cherished memories.

I just hope I am healthy enough to keep on pleasing their appetites for years to come. They will always be welcomed at "Mom's Table."
