161037_balloons__3Hubby and I took our girls to Disney World for eight days.  We had successfully planned the trip months in advanced and were able to surprise the girls on Christmas morning.  When this trip was planned (and paid for) our house was as normal as it ever had been since the adoption.  Minimal fighting, whining no breakdowns or wig outs for months.

As our trip approached however, a lot of issues started coming to the surface.  Hubby and I were worried our well planned trip may not be exactly what our girls needed at this time, but decided to keep up with our plans.

Mita and Enu didn’t enjoy the drive down and there anxiety surfaced as snottiness.  For example, ” We would have been there by now if we had taking a plane.”  Not what you want to hear on hour ten of a driving trip! Also “King’s Island is better than Disney.” (an Ohio amusement park).  The worst  was when the two of them teamed up against us and literally brought me to tears as with meanness.

By day three Hubby and I were ready leave early.  I honestly thought about flying home with Mita and Enu and letting Hubby finish the vacation with Meg and Elle.  Rock bottom.

Then it all fell into place.  The comments soon because,”I’ll remember this night forever!”. and “Can we get a family picture?”  I thank God for the turnaround in attitudes and the rest of our great vacation.  The trip home was even more calm and smooth.

So why am I sharing all of this with you?  To remind you that any change in routine/environment will throw your kids out of whack.  We expected this, but couldn’t believe how heightened it was. I’m talking a knock-down, drag -out melt down almost every hour.  Unless we were actively doing something fun, they were miserable.  It took days for them to feel comfortable, and we were in our own, familiar camper!  We had limited our expectations and toned down my disney magic I normally go for and it was still to much.

I don’t regret the trip at all. The girls speak fondly of it and want to go back of course.  Hubby and I had thought of making this an annual trip…those plans are on hold as is our summer trip to Colorado we had been planning.  Home is really nice right now!

Disney is still my favorite place on Earth.  I loved our vacation and do want to go back again someday…someday far, far away!
