Wow, I am so excited. I received my first comment for a wonderful couple who just adopted an 11 year old daughter.
My excitement is for both the new parents and the child. It is like a true life game of exploration.
They both will get to know each other and each new day will bring them closer together.
I remember my 11 year old daughter when she first came to me. So quiet and inward. Slow to say anything to us but mothering her younger siblings every time she got a chance.
We were out in the back yard swimming and playing with the kids, a few short weeks after the kids had arrived in our home. The boys were tossing rocks and one happened to hit my 11 year old daughters foot.
She began to cry. I knew it might of hurt but there was no bleeding or bruising but she was sobbing.
I took her into my arms and I whispered in her ear that it was ok to cry to just relax and let it out.
She cried there in my arms for almost 20 minutes.
My heart was so full of compassion for her. For the first time I felt like a "Real Mom". I guess it is needless to say but she won my heart that day.
Here was a little girl who had just came from an abusive home life. One in which she had to mother the kids and make sure they were fed and cared for.
She was the smallest "Real Mom" I had ever scene.
It is amazing what we are capable of doing at young ages when we are forced to grow up fast. Today my 11 year old is now a 21 year old, married with one 18 month old son and another one on the way.
She is a wonderful young lady. Very hard working.
I am so proud of her.
So thank you so much for your comments and I wish you joy and happiness on the journey of parenting your 11 year old daughter. I know I would not have missed parenting my daughter for anything else in this world.
I'm loving being a grandma too. (giggles) I can adore the kids and play and send them home the same day. Wooohooooo
Thank you so much for taking time to read our blog.
Sincerely,
Shar
