Giggles and Wiggles

One of my favorite past times is tickling and wrestling with my little grandson. He is just this awesome ball of energy. He wears me out in just a few minutes.

I love to hear the sound of his laughter. It brightens my day.

When he and his mommy get into a good tickle session.
He will giggle and wiggle all over the floor. We have to call time outs so that mom and son can breath.

I always knew that my oldest daughter would be a great mom. But at moments like this I just gleam with pride and happiness. To see her enjoying her child so much and him loving his mommy so much.

He is now in his terrible twos. He is giving mom a run for her money. Picking up bad words from his other grandpa and his daddy. Learning to say that big word "NO" back to his mommy.

So it is needless to say he is learning first hand what the time out corner looks like in their house.
My daughter says that sometimes it goes so far that she has to swat him on the butt just to keep him in time out.

She was begging me for ideas. What else can she do and how can she change his behavior. I think every mom asks those questions from time to time.

Devin does seem a little to hyper. He also does not make good eye contact. So I suggested that she make sure to place one finger under his chin and guide him to make eye contact with her. Then speak slowly and clearly. In as few words as possible. To correct his behavior.

We also talked about changing a negative to a positive. If she catches him doing something wrong.
She will say "No Devin we do not do it that way. We do it this way." Then demonstrate the positive behavior.

He has already learned to ask for a cup of juice, instead of taking out the whole container and trying
to open it and spilling it on the floor.

Her biggest battle now is trying to potty train him.
He is getting the idea that it does not feel good to potty in his pants. But he still does not like his potty chair and has decided to use the floor a few times.

Which of course has his mommy in tears. It is all a part of toddler life. You have to pay the dues but all those Giggles and Wiggles make it all worth it.
Plus the potty training stories will be great memories to share with him and his wife and kids in years to come.

When mom is stressed out and thinks that she can't take any more of the terrible two behavior. I just sooth her and say....soon this will be a memory too.
Kids just grow up on us so fast. This too shall pass.
