Girl Talk and The Male Bashing

Well the sleep over parties have begun. all the teenage girls on the block seem to flock down to my house. April and the girls hang out all day and all they do is compare notes on all the guys.

It is kind of fun to listen in and find out what the chat is about. When the bad gossip begins I just walk away. All of her friends think I am mean for grounding her at the age of 16 and a half. But she just never shows respect to anyone and if it's the last thing I do on this earth, that girl will learn some respect before I die.

It is strange to hear teenage girls "male bashing" already. I guess when kids date younger they learn to complain younger too.

When the guys get together on the porch and talk they talk about all sorts of good stuff. Like playing basketball and who is better at what. They seem to be more focused on life than on the girls.

However thats what the girls mainly complain about. How the guys hang out all day and do not spend time with them if they are "going together."

I am still getting used to the words "Hooking Up." I take it that means sex now. I still like knowing that the girls are safe so I don't mind at all when three or four or five of them all bring pillows and blankies and hang out here for an evening.

Last time I rented them some chick flicks and bought pizza and pop. Handed them some nail polish in several colors and before you knew it, the party was on. Everyone woke up with painted toe nails and finger nails. Including my husband who was sleeping in the chair. (giggle)

So let the summer parties begin. Keep your kids safe by saying yes to a sleep over. Get them all rotating from house to house as long as you know the other parents. Then everyone has a break and summer can be more fun for the old and the young.

You are correct with that. Every day, 8,000 teens become infected by a sexually transmitted disease (STD) and 3 million will contract an STD this year, according to a book by Dr. Meg Meeker, "Epidemic: How Teen Sex is Killing Our Kids."

Quite sad. Providing a safe place for them to be is critical!
