It is that time of year again. When all the little ghosts and goblins dress up in their Halloween bests and come creeping to your door. Frail little voices call out "Trick or Treat" as you open the door with your arms full of candy. A tiny little face peers up at you. Is it a train? a plane? or Super Man?
Kids can come up with some great ideas. Starting early can help busy moms make those ideas happen.
Most children go through a phase where they want to be pirates, ghosts, masked killers and brain matter.
Some want to be a princess, a fairy or a blushing bride.
With a little material and a cool idea. You can make things happen. Children love to help. Get them involved and excited.
Sometimes with children who have been in foster care and have been adopted. Things like Halloween are new to them. They have not had anyone to help them make a costume or plan for a party. They may seem uninterested when in reality they are very excited but do not know how to show it.
A little nurturing goes along way in these cases.
Maybe a visit to a pumpkin patch to pick out their own pumpkin to carve. Learning to make pumpkin seeds and pumpkin pie. Or just enjoying the fall weather by visiting an apple orchard. Will help you introduce your new child to your family traditions.
If a child wants to hang back a little and just watch. That is ok too. Just let them know they are welcome to join in and let them make their own choices.
It will be fun to see what the kids of today come up with this Halloween season......Until then Happy Haunting.
