How To Enjoy The Wonders Of Life From Home

One of the best places to get lost is in a good book. In the pages of a book you can sail the seas of Moby Dic or cast your nets and harvest fish. You can fly planes the Wright Brothers, or study the ancient art of Snake Handling.

You can dream of Jeanies who grant three wishes or scale the lines of a great poet. You can fall in love with characters and disappear into the life of their pages.

How do you get your child to find the interesting world of reading?

1.) Read to your child every night. Remember children's books are fun but books like Moby Dick, Where the side walk ends, and Pippy Longstockings give a clear and since of reality to the story.

2.) If your child goes to the library in school.
Make sure to take interest in what they choose to read and read with them or have them read to you.

3.) Create a family library time where everyone goes off to the library and explores books and checks one out now and then.

4.) Most library's have a story time where someone volunteers to come read a story to anyone there who wishes to listen. You may even want to volunteer.

5.) Give books as presents. Owning something you love to read establishes their own library.

6.) Encourage Grand Parents to tell stories from when they were a child. Then try and find books about other people who went through the same type of things that the grand parents talked about, in the same frame of time.

7.) Reading can help you to encourage traits into your children like love and compassion, knowing more about the Hitler and what happened in times of war can teach them the need for passion and courage and compassion for others.

8.) Check out a book of jokes so that you can enjoy some silly humor each day and learn to laugh together.

9.) Teach them how to find what they want at a library.

10.) Last but not least teach them to cross reference and research to find topic on any subject they can think of. This helps them to develop study skills and learn to use the library for more than just pleasure.

Teaching your child to read and be efficient at the library as they progress in age and knowledge will open a world of dreams for them to explore.

We never stop learning in our life. They always say you can't teach an old dog new tricks. But I think if the treat is worth it....yes you can.
Some of us will read and enjoy our life through the words of others until we take our last breath. So in many ways reading is a life long gift.
