As Foster/Adoptive Parents our free time each week is very important to us. That is why it is good to work with your Foster/Adoption Worker and to ask them how you can get in quality training hours. That will count for the on record hours you need to keep your license up to date.
A few of the ways I used to get quality training hours are:
1.) View a Video about children and parenting or any
approved subject that the worker recommends. Then write a short essay covering what you learned in the Video.
2.) Do a book review on any covered parenting subject like discipline, child disorders, positive
role models .....anything that the worker might
mention to you.
3.) Attend the PTA meetings for your child's school and participate in the fund raising events. Do a review on what you have learned and have the person leading the meeting sign a paper disclosing the time you donated and turn it in to your worker.
4). Find out what events are going on at your local college or high school or community center dealing with kid issues and join and participate. Tell your worker and see if those hours can also be worked into
your training hours.
5.) Call your local agency and volunteer as a play room attendant. They often give training hours for parents willing to help them out also.
There are several good ideas like attending training classes and seminars in your community that will help you fill the required amount of hours for you license.
Try to find fun and productive things that you and your kids may enjoy. It is good to volunteer in your community and get out and meet your neighbors.
It is a great way to teach your children to care about others and to help you get your educational hours in for your license.
So think about expanding your life out of class rooms and into fun filled community hours. Check with your worker. I'm sure she will work it out so that those hours will count towards your training hours.
What do you think? If you have any other suggestions in this are feel free to leave us a comment and share the idea.
