HPV has been in the news a lot lately. It seems that the younger females are contracting the virus and it has become such an issue that they are trying to pass a law that will make it Mandatory to have an HPV Vaccination for all females at the sixth grade level.
We have just gotten used to Sex Education being taught in the schools and condoms being handed out by the school nurse. Now we are finding out what our actions of condoning sex education in school at a younger age is doing for our kids.
Young girls ages 10 and 11 are being sexually active and are showing up with HPV. In some women this virus is deadly and will turn to cancer if not treated.
So what are the side effects of the vaccinations?
Who will give these vaccinations? Our local doctor and will it be necessary to have this vaccination before attending school in the sixth grade for females?
What about the boys? They carry this HPV too. Will they also be treated or vaccinated? Do you feel safe having your teenage daughter vaccinated if she is not sexually active?
We know that children are not always honest when they tell us "No mom or dad...I'm not sexually active." Is this a good way to prevent cancer in young women?
These are all questions that we need to ask ourselves. I know that I had a rule that when my girls became sexually active. I made them their first GYN appointment. It was at that first appointment with their first pap smear that they found HPV in it's last stages prior to cancer...in my oldest daughter. That visit saved her life and made it possible for her to bless me with my two grandsons.
HPV is a serious problem. Especially in adoptive children and foster children who have been molested in the past like my daughters.
All I know is...it is a lot to think about and I guess after my experience with my daughter. I would agree to the vaccination.
Tell me what you think?
