With every adoption agency there are similarities.
Legal formalities that every couple that consider adoption must go through. Some agencies differ from others in how they complete the back ground check on the potential parents. Or how they proceed in the home study of potential parents.
This is one reason we hear stories about children like Masha. The five year old girl who was adopted from Russia's number one orphanage.
The adoption went along like most international adoptions. Paper work, paper work and more paper work. After all was finished the adoptive father made his trip to Russia to pick up his new daughter.
He brought her home with him to live in the out skirts of Philidelphia, Pennsylvania.
From the first night Masha was brought to her new home she knew something was not right. She did not have her own bedroom, Like the people at the orphanage had told her she would. She was forced to sleep with her new adoptive father.
The social worker in Pennsylvania had failed to do a proper back ground check. Had she just contacted the Ex Wife or Daughter of this man. Masha would have been saved from years of sexual abuse by her new adoptive fathers own hands and the Internet.
Masha has been on Oprah and recently was in the spot light on Thursday evening. In hope of saving other children. Masha allowed her story to be told. The Ex Wife and Biological Daughter also confirmed that no one did a follow up or asked them anything about the man who was now about to adopt Masha from Russia.
We often moan about all the questions that are asked and the boat load of paper work that it takes to make an adoption happen. But for reasons such as Masha's story. All that paper work is of great benefit. Even if it just keeps one child from living this type of night mare.
It is most important that the adoption workers on our side of the issue do a complete back ground check. So that no child from an International or Domestic adoption ever ends up in the home of a pedifile.
So relax and wait. Be patient. Allow a good job to be done. Do not push to harshly to make your adoption happen in a more timely manner. Allow the workers to do their job for the sake of our children.
A little more time to assure a happy home life for a child is so little to ask. Don't you agree with me?
