My mom always said some times you just have to laugh to keep from crying. If I chose to be depressed, mope around and dwell on the unplesant I'd be in serious trouble!

And I think CNN should be banned! Nobody needs a 24/7 feed of what is wrong in the world.

Yes!!

I am certain that a positive attitude and humor is the #1 reason my family works.

Get this - I was once taken to court for a positive attitude after our children's psych doc - and then state mental health director - turned me in. We went to court with chance of losing 5 children! It was terrifying. I later got full court transcripts. Here was his complaint: "Mrs. S., given the many needs of her children, is too happy."

WHAT?!?! OK, I get that maybe it was perceived that I didn't understand the full impact of living with the illness level of our home since I seemed happy at doc visits. HOWEVER, could they not understand that it was the happiness, joy and positive attitude that ALLOWED us to cope in a home with the "illness level" that ours had then (it was BAD)?!? (BTW, court went in our favor.)

I didn't know whether to laugh or cry. What I did was to take that page, highlight it and frame it. When I see that on the wall, it makes me smile every time. Sometimes I even laugh at it. I'm happy to explain it when guests ask.

When people ask me "How do you do it?", I answer: a positive attitude, a sense of humor and the God-given strength and peace.

I know it makes a difference for me and the "feel of our home". I could go on for hours on how I feel it's a key for healing of attachment issues as well....
