I think we all wish that there was a class we could take or a book we could read that would teach us how to live "Life."

Sure we can fill a library with books on different topics dealing with life issues. But with the world of knowledge no one person can ever have all the answers you will need for living your life.

When children are little we try and give them small chores to help structure their day and get them used to a little bit of personal responsibility.

As the children get older we increase these chores and even add an allowance "Paycheck" so to speak. For a job well done.

We often use this allowance to teach them the value of money and how to respect the things they save money for and purchase.

We begin to teach through "Cause and Effect." Letting them know that the choices they make have positive or negative results.

However as life has it....when the kids get into the teen years they begin to rebel. They want to make their own choice and decisions. They are tired of our advice as parents. So the less we speak the less we argue. The more we speak and try to parent the more we end up in disagreements.

Sometimes we have to open our arms and let the little birds fall out of the nest so they can learn on their own. I know it is very hard. We spend all these years trying to keep them safe and then realize we have to let go for them to really learn.

I think that is why God places different people in our lives at different times. To teach us what we need to know at that moment in life.

It is sad that we can't just learn from the feet of our elders. With each decade the rules of success change with it. So it is important that our kids have a wide variety of knowledge that we may or may not have interest in.

Good rules and structure at home is very important.
We will have rules all around us until we die.
Structure helps us keep a good pace each day.
When both are in place we find ourselves feeling safe and well loved in our home environment.

If life were a course and you could teach one lesson to the teens in your life......what would that be?
