Recently after speaking with someone about the "National Fatherhood Coalition." On the importance of a male role model being present in a child's life. I began thinking about what a Father figure really means.
You may call him Dad or Daddy, Pop or Poppa. He could have been an Uncle or even a Grand Dad. Whomever he was. What he taught you is worth more than words.
In Foster Care and Adoption. Even in single parent homes. At times the male and or female role model may not be present. In these cases who is the person that shows the child the proper role of a Mom or Dad figure?
The world is seeing a turn about in the role of single parenting and the Dad is fighting back for his rights to parent his child. With so many females working out of the home also. The need for the Dad to take on his role as parent is growing leaps and bounds. This is a good thing.
The NFC was founded to get more men involved in their children's lives. To get the information out there and let people know how much a child needs both parents in their life to form a healthy understanding of family life.
Each state now is addressing the need for parents to be more active in their child's education. Fathers are encouraged to get more involved and to attend school meetings and parent teacher functions with their children.
Regardless of the situations at home. If the parents are separated, divorced or a normal happy family. Dad and mom both need to be active in their child's life.
For children who do not have a Father figure in the picture. Finding someone who can fill some of the space that is left void in the child's life would be a good thing. Be it an Uncle or Grandpa or a big brother person.
It is as natural as bacon and eggs. As important as good manners and as needed as nutrition in a child's life. The role of a dad needs to be filled. This is also true for single parent homes where the mom is missing. The role of mom needs to be filled.
So what is a Dad? What do they teach us? Do they provide stability and security? Do they work hard and just pay the bills? Can't a mom do that too?
Can't one parent be both? You tell me?
We are living in a time where children from broken homes and one parent families are influencing our world. Is our life more stable? What is different about today's world than yesterdays world?
Bottom line is that it takes both male and female to create a child. It also takes both a male and female to raise a child. Kids need role models. They need someone to look up to and to desire to be like.
I think maybe the problem with so many teenage kids running around with no value for life. Could be a sign that it takes two good people to parent a child.
Filling the gap in your family to include both parent roles could be a good thing. Find a mentor.
What is a Mentor? Someone who can turn your child's
life into a desire to achieve. Male or Female. They help the other parent balance the basic need for another adult role model in a child's daily life.
