Pajamas In School

This morning my door bell rang and there stood one of my favorite friends daughter. I kind of giggled at her and said, "Aren't you going to school today?" She replied "Oh yes is April ready?"

About that time my daughter appeared out of the kitchen and her first words were "Oh how cool," followed by a "where did you get those?" Wasn't it obvious I thought, out of her pajama drawer.

I guess from the conversation the kids had, this is some new craze going around and I guess has been around for a couple of years. Kids wear leisure clothes to school. They sure looked like Pj's to me.

I looked over and saw this gleam in my daughters eyes and I immediately said, "Don't even think about it."

I still found it very humorous and could not wait to ask my friend how she felt about the new style. So I called her and during the chit chat I asked her where she bought this outfit her daughter was wearing. She asked what outfit. I began to laugh. I asked if she had saw how her daughter was dressed this morning for school. It was no surprise to me that the answer had been NO.

I told her a little bit about the outfit. She had the same reaction I had. But we talked about it and how she was having such a hard time keeping her daughter going to school. I suggested she not make a big deal about it.

Later that day I called the school and asked them in a humorous way what was up with the kids wearing what I would considered Pj's to school. I got the same response from the school as long as it was pants and a decent shirt, they didn't dare say a word. At least the kids were in school.

So Pj's it is for any kid out there with nerve enough to wear them. After all on American Idol there were a few way out of this world outfits. One looked like he stole someone's kitchen table cloth. I thought it and Simon of course said it.

Where is the crew of "What not to wear" when you need them? So I guess I can step out in my Pj's to get the mail. I will try it Saturday and see how my daughter feels about that one (giggles).

Here's to the days of Pj's.

Too funny, Sharlene! I, too, have seen my 18 year old daughter head off to school not just in PJ pants, but faded, filthy, ragged-at-the-bottom PJ pants. She knows I strongly disapprove, but I am way past interjecting in how she dresses. The pants are but one aspect of the overall persona... the heavy dose of cheap perfume to cover the lack of hygiene underneath, and the "poor me" look on the face to complete the picture. With the help of a couple of online courses, the plan is she will complete school by July and be on to the Navy, where THEY will address her wardrobe choices!

And as a final comment, I forgot to get the trash out yesterday morning and actually DID greet the nice trash man in my mis-matched footie pajamas... how embarrassing!

Thanks Nancy,

I am sitting here laughing because I can see you out there in your PJ's.

I actually drove my kids to school with mine on one time. They were running so late that I didn't have time to dress for rushing them. I would have died if I had gotten pulled over and had to explain that one lol.

Hugs,
Shar

Well, I'll say in the Pj's defense that It's EXTREMELY comfortable wearing them to school, especially on cold days when you have alot of tests to take.

Shar,
This is one of those "choose your battles" things. If you make a big deal about it it will probably continue. It's not life threatening and the school is okay with it, so save your energy for the big battles. But it is funny.
