They have finally come out with a limited call phone for children. The famous "Dragon Fly" offered by Sprint has four buttons and an emergency button in the center.

Parents can choose which 4 numbers their child can call. Mom, Dad, Home or a Friend. Or Home, The Police, Fire Department and School. It could be a series of people from Grandma to his Pediatrician.
But always in the center is the 911 button for any emergency any where at anytime.

However, this little fire fly is so popular that they are sold out across the country. There are waiting lists a mile long you can sign up to get on. Or you can check out "The Amigo."

The Amigo is offered by another prominent phone company costs a little less. Has four buttons also and the little red button for 911. They are in stock at local cell phone stores and you can get the phone FREE if you sign up on the plan for 39.95 per month. It has 400 minutes so the kids can check in with mom and dad when they are out at play.

I think it is still a little steep to pay four hundred dollars a year for a kiddie phone unless you are in a high crime area. Or have the money to blow.

We use the Walkie Talkie clip ons. They run on batteries or on an electric charger. Costs around 49.95 a set. Have a two mile radius. For our use for Paige checking in this so far covers her boundaries by far. We only allow her a two block radius even on her bike.

Maybe next year when she is a little older we will spring for a Fire Fly or an Amigo to make her feel important and for her to have a chance to be responsible with a cell phone aka emergency phone.

Has anyone out there got a Fire Fly how useful has it been to your child and family? Inquiring minds would love to know (giggle).
