Every parents goal is to keep their child in school and on the right track towards graduation and college.
This November many parents will meet with their child's Teachers. In the first "Parent Teacher Confrence" of the school year. In many ways this is the MOST Important talk you will have with your child's teacher.
In fact the year is still young and if your child has gotten off to a bad start you can help him or her turn it around now. So the rest of the year will be a good experience.
What Can You Do To Help Your Child:
1). Ask the Teacher good questions....
a). Is my child having difficulty in any one subject?
b). Can work they have missed be made up?
c). Is there a tutor available in this subject?
d). As a parent can I help my child understand this subject better? If so, how?
2). Set aside time to work on each subject with your child after school.
3). If there are more than one subject the child needs help with. Break up time and rotation schedules so your child will not become bored with each subject.
4). Ask your child questions. What, When, Why and Where? The child usually knows or can identify why they are having problems with something.
5). Set aside home work time each night so that your child and you can sit down and work together
on any areas they are not doing well in.
6). Comprehension is half the battle. Make sure your child understands the basic principal of the work before them.
7). Read the directions with your child. Reading them out loud can help the child understand what he or she is expected to do.
8). If you can not help your child. Get in touch with the teacher and set up a time to go in and go over the subject with them.
Helping your child get off to a good start always
makes life easier in the long run. It is to late to achieve a decent grade if they are to far into the marking period and they can not catch up with the daily work expected of them.
Good luck and keep an open mind as you talk with your child and their teachers. With a little love and understanding we can all be off to a great start ........and a wonderful finish this school year.
