Everyone was whispering at the grocery store. It seemed the buzz around town was how some kid finally punched out the town Bully.
I guess the town Bully thought he would pick on one of the new kids in the area. He was being very mean to this other little boy and some other kid picked him up and walked to the front of the school bus. Asked the driver to pull over and then took the kid over and sat him down in the middle of a big pile of snow.
The bus driver reported the incident and before the day ended it had been gossiped about all over town.
In reality no punches were thrown except by the Town Bully. He was kicking and punching and spitting and yelling fowl language. Which did not seem to bother the other person who simply just sat the kid down in the ice cold snow and motioned for the bus driver to go on.
Later in the day I heard that the new kid was a foster child who had just moved in to our area.
The other kids had given him a hard time and much to my surprise the kid who picked up the bully and sat him down in the snow to cool off was my Billy.
Billy has been going back to adult education classes to get his GED. They allow the older kids to ride the bus if it is cold out side and he had decided to ride the bus that morning.
When I heard the full story I was very proud of my boy. He has grown up to be a decent young man in many ways. In any case it was my pleasure to hear of him standing up for another child who in many ways could be a lot like he was at that age.
The good news is that the school bully is suspended off the buss for two weeks. Billy did get talked to about his part in the problem and he also got a thank you note from the bus driver for his kind care and good manners. Needless to say I am very proud of him and even more so for pursuing his GED.
