The school system in our area is excellent at our elementary level. They have very creative teaching methods and they offer the children chances to grow in all areas of learning by touch and on hand experience.
Today was our daughter Angela's "Special Person Day." Each year the kids practice three songs and each song includes some type of dance moves or sign language.
All the parents and guests gather in the school gym room and we listen to our children and the other classes with them perform. Then we got to our child's classroom and we see the work they have done all year.
There is also a book fair that they have open for parents and children to attend. It helps keep you advised to what up to date materials are out there for our children to be reading.
The focus of the day is on the special person that the child has brought with them to see their school and to visit their book fair.
The book fair is filled with educational toys and posters, activity books and puzzles. Just about anything you can think of to make reading and learning more fun.
As a child I loved school supplies and neat pens and pencils. So of course I try and keep some pretty great things at home for my children and us older family members who still enjoy them.
I love visiting my daughters school. I love the art that they display on the walls in the hallway for each grade. I like the way they promote love, courage, kindness, compassion, truth, honesty, bravery, citizen ship and a number of other growing traits.
This year Daddy took off half a day from work so that he could be Angela's "Special Person." Mommy enjoyed her time off to relax since my weekend run in with the flu.
All in all my husband said he had a fun time with his baby girl. I know that every year I have enjoyed myself and I am one big fan of "Special Person Day."
