We had never been inside a court building. Our neighbor assured us that everything was going to be ok. We felt a lot better when we saw Grandma waiting for us there in the lobby.
That day the judge made the decision that my Grandma could be our guardian while court was pending for my parents.
We still had no word on my mom. The judge said that my dad would be in jail for Domestic Violance for a very long time. He would also have to deal with his drug and alcohol use before he could ever come home and be our dad again.
The worker came in and had just got an up date on my mom from the hospital. They almost lost her. She had taken an over dose of drugs and had mixed that with alcohol and it still was not clear if she had fallen down the stairs or if my dad had pushed her.
She would remain in the hospital until she was ok and then moved to a drug and alcohol treatment facility.
Over the next few months we settled in and Grandma moved in with us. She was there to take care of us just like always.
After the trial it was clear that my mom and dad had been fighting and that they were very sick because of the drugs and alcohol. So the Judge made my Grandma permanent Guardian over me and my 3 siblings.
My mom and dad were not to be allowed to see us.
They both had to work on their selves. With out being drug and alcohol free they would not be allowed to be part of our life again.
We loved our parents very much. We were greatfull to our Grandma for always being there for us. She kept us safe when mom and dad had problems.
I am sure there are other kids and grown ups out there that have lived our story also. We decided to share our story so that other kids would know that they are not alone. God always sends someone like a grandma or our neighbor into your life.
Thank you my darling little friends for allowing me to share your story.......your neighbor...Sharlene
