For most Foster and Adoptive Families. It is always good to have back up plans for family activities if the weather decides to change the plan.

With older children they usually can find something to occupy themselves around the house. However it's good to have some back up plans for days like this.
The summer heat wave has hit in Michigan. Every day it has been too hot to be out side for long periods of time.

When the kids do go out. You must make sure they have a lot of water and cool drinks to keep them from dehydration.

It is times like these that I like to keep some board games on hand. Where family can sit together and talk as they play. Chess and Checkers are some of our favorites. We also have Monoply and Sorry.
Along with a deck of cards that can entertain us all for hours.

Games can really be fun when the whole family participates. A few light snacks and plenty of beverages, can make for a charming family afternoon.

The heat wave is really hard on older folks and young children. They can suffer from heat stroke so easily. If you can encourage your children to find something to do inside. You do not have to worry about any of those problems.

If you know of someone who does not have air conditioning. It might be nice to invite them over to your place to join in on playing cards or watching some T. V.

With larger families like those of foster care and adoption. It is always nice to keep some good back up Idea's in place for anything that happens and makes the family have to retreat to the indoors for longer periods of time.

Heat causes people to be irritable also. So keep this in mind if everyone is stuck in side and the kids get bored.

Thank goodness for back yard swimming pools and sun block. Swimming is another good activity for the family when the days are lingering and hot.

Anyone out there with other good Idea's for larger families on hot days? Feel free to let us know how you take advantage of family time.
