Categories: The Benefits of An Older Child
I have tried to cover a lot of different areas in our Older Child Adoption Blog. I am sure there are other great things I am missing out on.

I do not know a lot about out of country and international adoption so I need some help from all of you out there. If you have an older child you have adopted from out of America and have issues that you have found difficult. Please feel free to off us some good comments. We are here to help other adoptive parents.

What do you need to know? What questions would you like us to address? What issues have you experienced and want others to know about?

If you do not leave a comment I will not know you are following our topics.

So please take time and think of some topics you would like to hear us address. We are all a part of the Adoption Family. I need to hear from you.

Shar:

I'd like to hear more about helping an older child adjust to the new family. We had a lot of success with this and I have friends who have been equally successful. But, we are sorta copy cats in that we all took the same--some would say--hardline approach. That being, "we're a family now kid, let's get on with it, we're gonna start loving each other...now!" We didn't buy into the "you must be patient, give the child time" advice and we all adopted older children of varying ages ranging from my daughters who were preschoolers to preadolescent and adolescent children. Anyway, I'm rambling. I know there is no one right way to help older children adjust to their new families and our approach is just one of many. I'd like to hear success stories of other approaches including the "give it time and be patient approach."
