One day while working for a friend at her cement store. I noticed a little girl who kept playing around our water fountain.
Her mother was a busy foster mom. She was running and chasing after the younger children, while this little one seemed to be entertaining herself.
After observing her for several minutes. I decided to walk over and say hello to her. I was worried that the chemicals in the fountain were not child safe and I wanted to let the little girl know not to play in the water.
When I approached the fountain much to my surprise.
The little girl was soaked. Her pockets were full and wet as could be. She had been taking all the money that had been tossed into the fountain out and placed it in her pockets.
The little girl was so cute I could hardly keep from giggling. I tried to compose myself and ask her "And what do you think you are doing?" With a happy little face she smiled up at me and said "Well someone has to recycle all these pennies, I thought it might as well be me."
On that note I broke out in a big smile. I could hardly contain my laughter. Her mom came running over and apologized for the little girl bothering me. I quickly said she was no bother at all.
She had simply been recycling pennies.
I urged her mom to get her hands washed up. Because of the chemicals in the water. But this little girl and her reason for playing in the fountain made my day.
And people ask why I adore older children. It is for reasons like this. They make even the smallest issues seem humorous.
