As the holidays approach and the phone calls come in to the local churches, we tend to get a peek into the world of those less fortunate than we are.
We hear stories of poverty and see children with out gloves, hats, coats or clothing. Mothers ask for just enough food to get them through until their next food stamps arrive or the next check comes in.
Fathers are often to proud to ask for help, if they are out there trying to do it all on their own. The results can be no heat or running water in their homes. Or God forbid another family in a shelter or on the streets out in the cold.
This is when as a nation we should pull together and help the organizations like "The Good Fellows" or "The Salvation Army." As they stand out in the cold collecting donations of cash, food and toys.
Some of us rush around finding that perfect gift for our loved ones. When maybe a less expensive gift would do just fine and a small donation to a charity in that loved ones name. Would top off Christmas just right.
Somehow we struggle through and the holidays are over and we set out on the adventure of another year in life.
But those who were hungry and without homes struggle just to survive another day. We often say "I am just one person what can I do?" When all of us join together we can move mountains. Create jobs. Feed the children.
Together we can make the world a much better place but it does take all of us working together. That means people who receive help need to step aside and allow others who need help to receive also. They do not need to go to every food bank and every
good fellows drop off and ask for more then their share.
It also would not hurt them to volunteer when they do get on their own feet. To give back to the programs that helped them so that they can go on helping others.
We maybe the richest nation on earth but sometimes we are just not the brightest. Our school system is reflecting that and making it very obvious.
So this year let's support the wonderful work the Good Fellows and the Salvation Army and other programs that are out there are doing. Let's bless them with our time and our money if we have it to give.
Then we all can have a very happy holiday season.
