Two sister's spent most of their lives living together, working together and making a home together. They had decided to not rush themselves into marriage. To take time and make sure they met the right men. Years past and they found themselves in their later 30's and they were still very content living together. But, neither had married.
They both had talked about children and having a family most of their lives. With this desire at hand they decided to ask about adoption.
Once again they took their time and they decided what kind of child they wanted to adopt. When their worker had done their home study, completed all the paper work and began looking for "their perfect child." It took some time but the worker managed to find several children that matched most of the interests that the sisters had suggested.
So she called them up and asked them to meet her at the agency play room. The sisters were loving ladies and they were very excited that they may be able to raise a child together.
When they got to the play room. The worker met them out side. She told them that all the children inside of the play room were up for adoption and met some or most of their criteria. Now it was up to them to observe the children. Talk to them. Play with them and make a decision on which one they would adopt.
The sisters entered the play room and they began their journey into choosing a child. After an hour of watching the children play they were more confused than ever. How could you pick just one out of several beautiful children? The sisters told the worker about their heartfelt delima.
The worker suggested they take a few days and take the case profile sheet of each child home with them.
Then they could think it over and make a clear decision. They would speak again on Monday.
When Monday came. The sisters still had not made a decision. One sister spoke up and said why don't we just take them all? The other sister giggled and said "We do not have the room to adopt them all."
They lived in a modest 3 bedroom home. Each sister had their own bedroom. That left just one bedroom for a child they wanted to adopt.
They hurried off to the agency to meet once again with their worker. On the way outside. They saw a little girl sitting alone on bench out side the play room. She was crying softly. Kicking her feet.
But she looked up as they passed with the bluest eyes they had ever seen.
The little girl sitting outside haunted them. They asked the worker about her. The worker told her that she had been placed in another home for adoption but things just didn't work out. The little girl could not speak clearly. She had problems with night mares and wetting the bed.
The pre adopt parents just could not handle all of her needs and had recended the adoption.
In unison the sisters said "We'll take her."
The worker looked at them with amazement. She tried to discourage them. Telling them that the little girl was a hand full. But they insisted. She was the child they wanted to adopt.
The worker was right. But the sisters loved taking care of the little girl. When she would wake up with a bad dream. Both sisters would run to her room and sooth her. They would get up in the middle of the night and make hot cocoa and tell funny stories about their own child hood.
It was very easy to prep and change her bed each night. The sisters just dressed the bed then placed a plastic sheet on top the first sheet. Then dressed the bed again over the plastic sheet. When she wet the bed at night she could take the top sheet off and there she had a clean new bed to sleep the rest of the night in.
It was not long before the little girl began to stop wetting her bed every night. The sisters would praise her when she had a dry night.
Over the summer before school began the sisters would take time and help her to pronounce her words.
They would hold up a cup and say this is a C U P.
It wasn't long before the little girl improved a great deal with her reading and words and how she pronounced them.
Now she was all ready for school........
