When Children Cry

She stood there in the dark. I heard her sobbing.
I asked her what was wrong. She didn't answer.
All I could hear was silent crying.

I got up out of bed and walked over to her. I knelt down beside her. I smiled and took her face into my hands. She looked at me. My heart broke for her all I wanted to do was hold her. But she was so new to my home. I simply asked her if I could have a hug.

She hugged me. Clung to me and I sat down on the floor and pulled her into my lap. We just sat there and I let her cry. She cried for almost an hour. My gown wet with her tears. She began snubbing. No more tears to cry? I asked her softly. Then we both started to giggle.

I picked her up and took her into the bathroom and we got a cold wash cloth and wiped her face. I brushed her hair back and then she gave a sleepy yawn. So I carried her back to her bed.

I covered her up with her blanket. Gave her one of my favorite stuffed animals. Told her it was hers to keep for ever and ever. Then I sat down on the floor beside her bed. I rubbed her arms and hand softly until she fell fast asleep again.

She still was snubbing a little in her sleep. That night is one of the most precious nights I cherish in my memories. I never asked why she was crying again. She never told me. I doubt she would even remember in the morning. But what ever brought those tears, kept them flowing until she found closure.

Sometimes all we need is a hug or someone to be next to us. We find comfort just in the presence of someone who we feel safe with.

When ever children cry. It pulls my heart strings.
Who knows if it's a booboo or if some other kid hit them. They could have gotten their feelings hurt or had a bad dream. Or maybe they just need to cry it out whatever it is that is making them unhappy.

I guess that is why my mom always said, "A mother's love is the closest thing to God's love in this world." I can hear her voice softly whisper, "It will all be better in the morning." Usually it was.

I remember when she was so ill and we were on 24 hour watch with her. I was the one who sang to her softly and said, "Mom it will all be better in the morning."

There is just something about mother's and daughter's. A special bond. Maybe it is from how
they nurture us when we cry.

All I know is some of the best moments in life are when you can brush away the tears of a little child and make them feel safe and make their world a little brighter. So hold on tight when children cry.
