Will You Adopt Me Too?

The past week or so the sun has been out and the weather has been so nice here in Michigan. All of the kids are getting out side and riding their bikes and playing games.

My daughter recently met two little girls her own age. They live about a block away from us and now she is begging us to increase her boundaries again. She is just too little to go over to the other block alone, so she is really sad that we said no.

However the girls' mom and I discussed the buddy system. If they are together it is ok to walk the distance if they call the one mom as they leave and call the other when they get there.

Paige is 7 and will be turning 8 on May 30th, so she feels like such a big girl. She is 42 inches tall and she weighs a whooping 45 lbs. So to us she is still a tiny little thing.

Today it was kind of cold and rainy so the girls decided to play inside with us. As I was making dinner I tossed some blueberry muffins into the oven. When they came out of the oven I gave the girls a warm muffin and a ice cold glass of milk. That made the day.

A few minutes later Cortney came into the kitchen and with a whimsical look on her face she said "Shar will you adopt me?" I just about choked on my juice. Then she began to explain herself.

She said her mommy gets tired easily and when she is sick and tired of her she tells her she is going to put her and her sister up for adoption if they don't clean their mess up.

I tried my best to keep a straight face and I told her that I would love to adopt her if she and her sister ever needed to be adopted, however I told her that I'm more than positive she and her sister are very much loved and mommy is just teasing her when she says that. It is like a joke.

She called her mom to ask if she could eat over at our house. Then when her mom said yes, she went on and said, "Well mom Shar said you are joking but that she would adopt us if you want her to next time our room is dirty."

I just stood there in the kitchen holding back the laughter. Cortney came into the kitchen and said, "Well Shar you will have to wait a while for her to make up her mind. She said she needed to ask dad."

When we took Cortney home. Her mom was giggling with me on how serious Cortney was taking her words.

So I'm sure we have Cortney's adoption dilemma settled. But we decided maybe it's time to be kind with our words for awhile since the girls are at an age where they are beginning to think more about what gets said.

I guess this is one reason I love older children so much. You never know what they are going to say or do next. Life is so fresh and their world is so ready to be explored and for the first time they can voice what they see and feel.

transportationI feel more at home with a room full of kids than I do with a group of ladies my own age. Life is so natural with kids. It is what it has to be for the moment. With adults we find things to worry about even before they happen.

What a wonderful asset to the world our children are. I hope we all take time to see them for just that. One of our most valuable possessions.
