The snow if falling all over the place and our kids are ready to head out into that gorgeous white stuff to make their first snowman.

So it is now time to think about family safety during winter sporting and activities.

Here are a few good and helpful hints:

1.) Dress for the degree of and weather outside.
2.) Take a back pack with extra dry socks and
gloves.
3.) Make sure skates fit appropriately. Make sure
the laces are tight and secure the ankle.
4.) Check out the blades on the skates before
putting them on.
5.) Make sure the ice is solid and can hold weight
limits for all skaters.
6.) When sledding make sure the hill area is clear
of objects that can cause harm.
7.) The sled should only be waxed on the bottom.
Never wax the top surface where you need
traction to sit.
8.) Follow all posted safety guidelines.

9.) Never stay out to long. Make everyone stop
and warm up regularly.
10.) Remember to drink lots of liquids. Your
body uses oxygen in colder weather. So you
must replenish fluids just like summer
exercise.

No matter what you are doing. It is always a good idea to practice good safety. Family fun and sports activities are much more enjoyable when everyone is safe and no accidents ruin the fun.

When in doubt about a sport you may wish to try. Ask questions. Read a good book on the subject.
Go and observe before you participate. Talk to the sports authorities when you are buying equipment and ask what is the best safety tips for this sport.

The only stupid question is....the one you don't ask.
